Ohio Establishes Birth Moms Network for Mothers of Children Affected by FASD

The Ohio FASD Initiative is pleased to announce the development of the "Ohio Birth Moms Network" -- a support group for mothers of children affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).  The Ohio Birth Moms Network is affiliated with the Ohio Women's Network and the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS).  The network is still in its infancy as organizers are working to develop a logo and measuring statewide interest and support.  The FASD Initiative Steering committee is still working on the criteria and protocols and will initially be piloting the project in a few locations. Please contact Jeane Cole, OWN Secretary at jeanecole777@aol.com or Melinda Norman, FASD State Coordinator at melinda.norman@ada.ohio.gov for information.

Every child affected with FASD is different and has his or her own unique strengths and challenges. Therefore, not all of the strategies will work with your child. The best approach is to keep trying different strategies until you find the ones that work for you and your child. Once you find the best fit, stick to it. Remember that strategies are not always set in stone and can be modified to suit your child’s individual needs.

The following links contain day-today strategies for parents, common concerns, and survival skills from experienced parents of children with FASD.
