Ohio Early Warning Network

Anonymous Tip | OEWN Alerts

The Ohio Early Warning Network (OEWN) was designed and is coordinated by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, Division of Prevention Services (ODADAS); the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), Safe and Drug Free Schools Program, Ohio Resource Network and the Ohio National Guard (ONG).  Product information support provided to the Early Warning Network by the Drug and Poison Information Center(DPIC).

Mission: The mission of the Ohio Early Warning Network is to release timely alerts to inform Network Associates throughout Ohio of emerging drug issues and potential precursors to violence across the State. Examples of concerns to be reported include:

  • New methods of using drugs that are being observed, e.g., lacing marijuana joints with Miracle Grow prior to smoking
  • Increased drug traffic as seen by law enforcement officers
  • Increased/emerging incidence of use of a particular drug, e.g., Oxycontin, Methamphetamine, Ecstasy, etc.
  • Suspicious activities that may threaten security in schools and communities
  • Emerging gang/cult activities

Scope: The Network is comprised of associates including, but not limited to, local treatment centers, law enforcement officers, schools, faith-based organizations, private homes—in fact, any Ohioan can join the network at no charge. A Network Coordinating Committee will facilitate efficient and effective service delivery. Anyone in Ohio can report an issue to the network anonymously online, or by using the toll-free non-emergency InfoLine, 1-800-788-7254, option # 2. Alerts will be sent in a variety of ways including electronically via a list serv.  To be added to the OEWN list-serve, any Ohioan must submit the Network Associate Registration Form. Click this link or the button at the top of this page to access the List Serv form, then fill out all categories and submit the form on-line. The OEWN is not intended to act as a referral source for urgent calls. Emergency calls should immediately be made to a local 911 operator. Point of contact for the OEWN is Eric Hall at 1-800-788-7254, opt #2, eric.hall@uc.edu.
