Mrs. Hope Taft, First Lady of Ohio, in partnership with members of the Ohio Family and Children First (OFCF) Cabinet Council, formed the FASD Steering Committee expanding to include Ohio Department of Aging, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, institutes of higher education, providers and parents.

Town Hall Meeting to increase awareness of the challenges faced by Ohio’s children and families.

August 2005
The FASD Steering Committee completed a strategic implementation and evaluation plan with its mission to establish efficiency in state systems resource allocation, coordination of services and augmentation of available resources to address FASD.

Feb. 10, 2006
Mrs. Hope Taft, First Lady of Ohio, announced Ohio’s FASD Initiative at a press conference. Additional speakers included Dr. Nick Baird, Ohio Department of Health; Carolyn Givens, Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services; Hap Hinkle, Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities; and Phil Petrosky, a parent.

Feb. 17, 2006
Representatives from the state agency partners presented the first draft of their agency’s strategic plan for integrating FASD into their agency’s service delivery systems.

March 2006
The FASD Steering Committee launches the initiative’s Web site: www.notasingledrop.org [1].

April 2006
The universal marketing campaign kicks off with public service announcements airing on WBNS 10TV, Ohio News Network, Mix 97.1FM and Ohio News Network Radio. Advertisements also will run in Columbus Parent and its sister publications throughout the state.

August 2006

The Steering Committee coordinates the 2nd annual FASD conference in Columbus, Ohio. Keynote speakers included Dr. Ed Riley, Diane Malbin, and Dr. Anne Streisguth. Several breakouts were also availble to provide education for parents, caregivers, teachers, and medical professionals.

January 2007

In January the members of the Steering Committee participated in planning retreats. January 19th the Parent representatives to the Steering Committee meet and developed a strategic plan for implementation in the calendar year 2007. The Parents developed a plan that will expand the scope and reach of the current Parent Network. They have plans for bi monthly meetings and a regional approach for collaboration at the local level. They have a clear direction for the next year.

January 30th the State Agency representatives to the steering committee came together for a planning retreat of their own. The agencies brought their current plans that were developed February 2006 in order to establish where we were, where we are currently and where we still need and want to go. By looking at what progress we have made the agencies were able to make some broad generalizations about the overall State progress toward our long term goals and some very specific statements that reflect the activities that they have achieved in their respective agencies. The documents from each of the retreats will be compiled into the plan for the State Initiative for 2007.

August 2007

Governer Ted Stickland designates September 9th as Fetal Alcohol Awareness Day in Ohio, to promote awareness of the effects of prenatal exposure of alcohol, to increase compassion to those individuals so affected, to minimize further effects, to ensure healthier communities across this great state in the future. September 2007

The Ohio FASD Parent Network hosts a Family Picnic at Alum Creek State Park in Columbus Ohio. Families and caregivers of children with FASD are invited to attend a day of games, crafts, hotdogs and networking!
